In January we had the privilege of hosting our first team from Iowa. We put them to work on the north side of the Island, in the Samaná outskirts at the Villa Clara Church. Their work included repairing a retaining wall, fixing the church’s electrical system, fixing bathrooms, building a retaining wall for a garden, sewing projects, building and painting a beautiful new Villa Clara church sign, leveling floors of a new parsonage, cementing a steep walkway to make it safe to walk into church, leading VBS classes, taking food baskets to a community displaced by a corrupt land baron, visiting local families, cooking special meals with the Dominican staff, and painting a wall at the IED Church camp on the south side of the island. A lot was accomplished and done with an enthusiastic spirit.
So many talents were shared.
On behalf of the Dominican Evangelical Church we say thank you! Iowa brought a spark of new life to the Villa Clara Church and new friendships were enjoyed. Working together in Jesus name across cultural boundaries helps me believe that the Kingdom of God is in our midst.
